Live Software Solutions launches research division and encourages the Government to support innovation and creativity

Software developer Live Software Solutions (LSS), a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner, has launched a research division, principally to design and bring to market creative and innovative technological solutions to business issues and needs.

"LSS is a technology company and innovation is the key to growth for any technology company in a downturn," said its managing director, James Boother. He added: "Reorganising our research efforts will help us survive the current economic downturn and secure LSS’s future by aligning our work even more closely to meet customers’ business goals.

"Our approach puts us in a good position to innovate in today's economy since effective R&D forms the pipeline for future company growth," he said.

"We are not focusing on the current recession," added Boother. "We are looking at longer term investment in technology so that LSS is fully prepared and able to offer its customers a variety of choices when we get out of the recession.

"Innovation is not for the next quarter; it is for the next two years or so. The key is to invest in innovation that really matters and helps businesses to meet their needs effectively and efficiently."

While other companies keep their research projects under wraps, LSS has decided to reveal that it is currently working on an online survey tool which aims to offer small and medium sized companies 'big business software capabilities at a small company price’.

Boother explained: "We’re happy to let people know what we’re working on because we want to encourage our clients and customers to help us develop and test these innovative products. This approach also helps us to tap into our clients’ best ideas too.

"Open innovation is a key part of our philosophy and the way in which we co-operate with our clients to meet their business needs. By being as open as we can be about what we’re doing, we should be able to bring these technological innovations to market faster - which should be to everyone’s benefit."

Boother and LSS’s technical director, Mike Goatly, believe that while LSS is intent on investing in innovation to ensure the company's continued success, the Government should also do more to encourage small to medium sized technology companies - such as LSS.

Goatly explained: "While these companies are creative, agile and flexible, they need that creativity to be recognised and supported from central funds. Investment in technology innovation need not be capital intensive but it can be risky until the innovation achieves a certain level of market penetration."

Boother added: "Innovation and technology drives every country’s economy and so plays a large part in determining that country’s long-term viability. So, if the UK Government continues to overlook and not invest in innovation among smaller companies, then UK plc will be hampered in its fight out of recession.

"There should be a fund available for financing new ideas and proper additional government incentives to reduce some of the risks that this industry has to take on," he added.
