Waterways Chaplains gain key information at Workplace Matters'
training day
Waterways Chaplains took a day off from their regular duties
recently to attend a training day which gave them a wealth of new
information - to help them in their job of offering a listening ear
and, where needed, a helping hand to those living on and around
Britain's waterways.

Second doctorate for Workplace Matters' Chief Executive Officer
The Rev Dr John Scott's second anniversary of his becoming CEO of
Workplace Matters (WM), a charity which takes Christian values into
the workplace, has been marked by his being awarded a second
doctorate.

Workplace Matters awarded a grant for its Waterways Chaplaincy
work
The Box Moor Trust, which manages some 480 acres of agricultural and
amenity land for the benefit of the inhabitants of Hemel Hempstead
and Bovingdon, has approved a grant of £2,500 to Workplace Matters
(WM), an ecumenical charity which takes Christian values into the
workplace.

Workplace Matters sponsors St Albans' Leadership in Business
Network
Through its consultancy arm, Workplace Matters, an ecumenical charity
which takes Christian values into the workplace, is running a
'Leadership in Business Network'. In particular, the
Network will be holding three
evening meetings - on 22nd September, 23rd October and 27th November
- at The Vineyard Centre, 7 Brick Knoll Park, St. Albans, AL1 5UG,
from 7.45pm for an 8pm start, until 10pm.

New Chairman for Workplace Matters
Delbert Sandiford has become the new Chair of the Trustees of
Workplace Matters, an ecumenical charity which takes Christian
values into the workplace. He succeeds the late Alan Harpham, who
had been chairman of the charity for some years but who died in
January this year.

Workplace Matters formalises its partnership with the Canal &
River Trust
Workplace Matters, an ecumenical charity which takes Christian
values into the workplace, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding
(MoU) with the Canal & River Trust (CRT). This MoU cements the
continuing development of the Waterways Chaplaincy, a service which
helps boaters to cope with the difficulties they face.

London Luton Airport senior
chaplain commissioned
In a special
service held at the Chapel at London Luton Airport, the Rev Canon
Liz Hughes has been officially commissioned as the airport's senior
chaplain. The commissioning was conducted by the Bishop of Bedford,
the Rt Rev Richard Atkinson.

London Luton Airport marks a new chapter in its chaplaincy story
A large group which included, among others, London Luton Airport
staff, chaplains and members of several faith groups, including
local clergy, met in the Silver Lounge at London Luton Airport on
Friday 18th October to bid an official ‘farewell’ to the airport’s
senior chaplain for the last 18 years, the Rev Michael Banfield.

Chaplains
Workplace Matters (WM), an ecumenical charity which takes Christian
values into the workplace, is experiencing such a surge in demand
for its resources that it’s looking to recruit more part-time, lay
and ordained chaplains – especially for its Waterways Chaplaincy
ministry in the Hillingdon area.

Workplace Matters commissions Waterways Chaplain
Workplace Matters (WM), an ecumenical charity which takes Christian
values into the workplace, has expanded its team of waterways
chaplains by commissioning Barbara Davis, a Bishops Stortford
resident who keeps a narrow boat, ‘Charm’, at Harlow. She is serving
as a waterways chaplain for the boating community and others who use
a 25 mile stretch of the River Stort - a tributary of the River Lea,
which it joins at Hoddesdon.

The Rev Canon Liz Hughes is set to succeed the Rev Michael Banfield
as Senior Chaplain at London Luton Airport, when Michael retires
later this summer.

Workplace chaplaincy tackles key concerns raised by Casino staff
study
A recent study, by Dr Guy Bohane and Professor Yvonne Guerrier, from
the University of Roehampton Business School, has highlighted
concerns about young people’s vulnerability to gambling addiction by
participating in casino gambling. In addition, looking at those who
work in the casino industry, the study also raises concerns about
the impact of unsociable shifts; work/life balance; quality and
quantity of the staff’s social life, and the ‘normalising of
gambling over extended periods’.
