Learning Light illuminates leading edge learning tools
Learning Light (LL), a non-profit organisation seeking to establish
itself as a Centre of Excellence in the use of learning technologies in
the workplace is organising another in its series of seminars exploring
today's new technologies in learning. The event - which is free to
attend - takes place in The Hubs, in Paternoster Row, Sheffield, from
4.30pm to 6.30pm on Monday 11th September.
The event's keynote speaker is Ron Edwards, of Ambient Performance, and
is hosted by Vaughan Waller, LL's head of membership services. Among
other things, Ambient Performance has developed workflow learning
delivered via Blackberry for global human resources consultants, Mercer
Consulting.
Waller commented: 'E-learning used to mean delivering learning online
but there are now numerous ways in which learning can be delivered to
the learner.
'This seminar will explore how emerging tools - including podcasting,
wikis, blogs, mobile and game technologies - are being used for
learning today. It will also examine the trends that are driving the
need and adoption of new technologies for learning.”
Edwards will discuss the growing number of learning technologies
available today and the pitfalls that you should avoid when considering
adding a new technology to your learning mix.
Although attendance at the seminar is free, places are strictly
limited.
So, to avoid disappointment, those wishing to attend the event should
email info@learninglight.com stating their name, company and a contact
telephone number. Alternatively, they should call Learning Light on
0114 201 5703 to book their place.

Notes for Editors:
About the
use of games - for entertainment and learning
A BBC study of ‘UK gamers', conducted last year. Among other things,
this showed that:
-
59 per
cent of those aged between six and 65 years of age in the UK are
‘gamers'. This equates to 26.5m people.
-
48 per
cent of people in the UK play games at least once a week.
-
100 per
cent of those aged from six to 10 years are ‘gamers'.
-
25 per
cent of the UK games players are aged between 36 and 50 years.
-
1.7m
gamers (18 per cent) are aged between 51 and 65 years.
-
The
average age of a ‘gamer' in the UK is 28.
-
45 per
cent of gamers are female.
Ron
Edwards, of Ambient Performance, commented: 'These findings are,
perhaps, not what you might expect.
'A corresponding US study showed that 75 per cent of households play
video games; the average age of ‘gamers' is 30 years, and 19 per cent
of the ‘over 50s' play games. In addition, there are more women than
men over the age of 18 years who are ‘gamers'.
'There are mobile games - for PSPs, DS, phones and PDAs. There's
inventive play involving cameras, and GPS for location-based games,
such as ‘Shroud'. There are even ‘augmented reality' games, which
overlay ‘actual' places with graphics to let you see, for example, a
ruined castle ‘rebuilt' or a battle re-fought in its original
position.”
