Learning Light clarifies its comments regarding Becta material on
its E-learning Centre website
Learning Light has clarified its comments about including much of
the intellectual property of Becta on its E-learning Centre website,
following new information which has come to light.
Learning Light, the Sheffield-based centre of excellence which,
among other things, publishes research on the UK and other European
e-learning markets, recently placed a wealth of Becta-owned
information on its E-learning Centre website (
www.e-learningcentre.co.uk ).
At the time, Learning Light believed that the E-learning Centre
website was the only place where this information was available -
following the closure of Becta under the Coalition Government's
public spending cuts.
However - as Learning Light's director of operations, David
Patterson, explained: "Yesterday, we were contacted by Ian Chowcat,
who is Head of Learning Innovation at Sero Consulting Limited. He
pointed out that: 'The Becta website is in the National Archives and
the Institute of Education is hosting the official legacy repository
of Becta research documents - including some in which I was
involved.'
"Naturally, we're deeply grateful to Ian for bringing this to our
attention," Patterson continued.
"Of course, the fact remains that this Becta material is available
on the E-learning Centre website - which regularly attracts up to
100,000 'hits' a month and contains a wealth of e-learning and
learning technologies related information.
"The Becta Collection is easily accessible and freely available for
viewing at
http://www.e-learningcentre.co.uk/Resources/Becta_Collection,"
he added.
